Message Dear Mr. O'Hara:

We lost a police son to suicide two years ago. We watched him change over the years because of his work. Your training during those years would have saved his life. He would have had hope and a way to take care of himslf before things fell to pieces. Your article about Unmarked Graves is so true. They couldn’t bury him and forget about him fast enough. He was a HERO to us and he deserves to be remembered for the good policeman he was. Now we know that he is a hero to you, too, because you see in him what others don’t want to see.

Thank you for talking to me and thank you for going beyond talking and DOING something besides trying to make money or a name for yourself. Please make them see. God bless you all.

Message In loving memory of my dear friend Melissa Ann Meekma shot in the line of duty while working for the El Dorado County Sheriffs Dept on June 05th, 2008 and tragically took her own life on December 8th,2009. What a precious soul she was, only 28 years on this earth and made her mark on hundreds of people that were blessed enough to know her. You will never be forgotten Auntie Mel! We love you.

Message Andy, I just wanted to say I miss you on xanga! You have come so far with this! You have touched many lives, and will touch many more by helping with awareness and getting rid of the stigmas that go along with suicide.
I hope you are doing well. It's been a long time since we've talked. {{hugs}}
Rhonda (Helena on xanga)

Message Response to a heartless editorial in the Connecticut Republican American about courageous Stamford police officer Frank Chiafaro, who was denied workers comp because police departments there don't "recognize" his PTSD. He's been forced to beg and grovel for help.

It's so nice that the Republican American shares some "compassion" for an officer who was severely traumatized when viciously attacked by a 200 pound APE he saw had torn off a woman's face and hands and then came rampaging after him. This is the stuff of nightmares, even for you brave armchair "heroes." As you sit in your cozy offices, I suggest you take the time to look up the official DSM definition of PTSD to see how far behind the times the state is in recognizing this horrific emotional injury and how life-changing it is. Yes, police officers sign on to do what YOU would never dream of doing and see horrors that would make you cower, but no--they do everything they can NOT to come out of it dead or physically/emotionally ruined for life. When that happens, yes--you should take care of them. DEEP shame on you all for suggesting that officers somehow "owe" you their blood and hearts for choosing so noble a profession. Shame.
