Police Suicides 2008

NOTE:  The following listing of United States police suicides is based on news reports and recognizes there is an unknown number that are unreported or misreported.  We search about 4,500 web and news sites per month for verifiable reports of suicides.

Our group has confirmed 41 police suicides during the first four months of 2008.  Because many police suicides are misreported or not reported, we know this is a minimum.

In its preliminary report  the FBI says 57 police officers were killed feloniously in the United States in 2007.  Of these, 55 were by guns and two by vehicles.  If the current trend of suicides continues, a minimum of 123 officers will have committed suicide during 2008, more than double the number dying at the hands of others.
